2025, Bana Alabed (15), Syria

At just 15 years old, Bana Alabed from Syria, now living in Türkiye, has become a global voice for children affected by war. Growing up during the Syrian civil war and surviving the siege of Aleppo, she experienced fear, loss and displacement firsthand. Instead of staying silent, she chose to speak out.

Bana started sharing the reality of life under siege through diaries, blogs and social media. Her campaign Stand with Aleppo reached people around the world and helped shine a light on the impact of war on children, from the loss of education to the constant threat of violence.

Today, Bana continues to raise awareness through books, public speaking and creative projects. She visits refugee communities, supports educational programmes and works with young people whose lives have also been shaped by conflict. Her mission is simple but powerful: to make sure the voices of children are heard and their rights are protected.

Bana believes that every child deserves safety, education and the chance to dream. Her message to the world is clear:

"Peace is not a luxury. The world must listen to us. War and conflict have stolen our childhood. We want to live safely in our own country. We want peace. And to the children suffering because of war: you are not alone!"
