Who we are

KidsRights was founded out of a conviction that remains central today: children and young people can change the world. When they are given the space to speak, decide, and take action, children's rights become stronger.
Since our founding, we have been amplifying the voices of young changemakers worldwide. We give them a platform, connect them to an international network and highlight where children’s rights are under pressure. An important milestone was the launch of the International Children’s Peace Prize in 2005. This prize is awarded annually by a Nobel Peace Prize laureate to a child who has shown exceptional commitment to children’s rights.
Today, KidsRights is an internationally recognized children’s rights organization and an authority on child participation. Everything we do starts from the same conviction: children are not just the future. They are already moving change today.
ECOSOC and the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates
KidsRights brings children’s voices to places where decisions are made. That is why KidsRights has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This recognition confirms our role as a reliable partner that makes children’s rights visible on the world stage.
The collaboration with the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates also shows how far the voices of young changemakers reach. In 2005, at the World Summit in Rome, under the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev, Nobel Peace Laureates embraced the International Children’s Peace Prize for the first time. Since then, KidsRights has been an official partner of the Nobel Peace Laureates, and each year a Nobel Peace Laureate presents the prize to a young changemaker who is driving change worldwide.
How we empower young changemakers
Young people standing up for children's rights deserve more than applause. They deserve research that proves their story, a stage that reaches world leaders and a movement that doesn't stop. That's why KidsRights works across these three areas at once.
