Young changemakers are moving the world

What happens when a child decides not to stay quiet? Then an idea can grow into a global movement.

The International Children’s Peace Prize gives a stage to young changemakers who are standing up for children’s rights. Children and youth who show with courage, creativity and perseverance that age is no limit to change the world for the better.

For more than twenty years, KidsRights has been amplifying their voices. Because when the world listens to young people, change moves.

The world’s most important youth prize

The International Children’s Peace Prize exemplifies KidsRights’ belief that the children who make a difference in the world should be recognized, awarded and motivated in their incredible effort to improve children’s rights. For the past 20 years, the International Children’s Peace Prize has provided a global platform to the winner to amplify their message and exponentially scale their impact. The winner’s remarkable story and message reaches millions of people every year and has an enormous impact on advancing the rights of children. The winners show us that a child really can move the world, as the International Children’s Peace Prize statuette, the ‘Nkosi’, expresses.

KidsRights launched the International Children’s Peace Prize in 2005 in the capital of Rome during the Wold Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, chaired by Mikhail Gorbachev. Since then, the International Children’s Peace Prize has been awarded annually by a Nobel Peace Laureate. Over the years the International Children’s Peace Prize, grew in stature and is now acknoledged as world’s most important youth award.

"Do not wait for someone else to come and speak for you, it's you who can change the world."

A stage that reaches the world

Every year the International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded to a courageous child who has made an exceptional difference for the rights of the child and the position of children, anywhere in the world. We are proud that each year the message of the new winner reaches and inspires hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

The prize recognizes the accomplishments of the winners and it offers them a worldwide platform to promote their ideals and causes, allowing for the important messages these young changemakers convey to reach a broader public and thereby making a greater impact in the promotion of children’s rights. The International Children’s Peace Prize statuette is each year uniquely crafted by Inge Ikink.

From one voice to global impact

Since its founding, 22 young changemakers from 18 countries on five continents have shown what is possible, that children can change the world. They build schools, protect vulnerable children, stand up for equal rights and give hope to entire communities.

Their ideas have inspired millions, influenced decision-makers and sparked movements that continue to grow. Every winner proves the same powerful truth: when young people are heard, they can change the world.
