State of Youth Generation Deserves, Egypt

State of Youth @Generation Deserves helps children and young people in underserved communities across Egypt turn concern into action. Working with children aged 12 to 17, the Chapter builds knowledge in climate action, digital skills and sustainable resource use. The goal is simple: empower young people to become problem-solvers in their own communities.

Founded by Mohamed, the Chapter was created after needs assessments in schools across Egypt revealed major gaps in environmental awareness and access to sustainability education. Today, Generation Deserves brings together 12 dedicated members who are determined to change that.

Connecting Young People for Change

Generation Deserves bridges the gap between schoolchildren and university students. Through a three-month programme, university volunteers mentor younger participants and share their knowledge of climate action, renewable energy and sustainable technologies.

Together, they explore local environmental challenges, build practical solutions and strengthen the skills needed for a more sustainable future.

The Chapter organizes hands-on workshops in public schools and community centres, combining climate education, digital literacy, basic programming and renewable energy learning. Participants also take part in problem-solving sessions and prototype activities using accessible, low-cost materials.

Growing Impact Across Egypt

So far, Generation Deserves has reached more than 3,000 children. The Chapter has created lasting connections between universities and local communities while showing how young people can drive meaningful environmental change.

And they are just getting started.

In 2026, Generation Deserves aims to double its university volunteer network to 100 mentors and support 1,200 children from underserved communities. They have most recently been selected for funding under the International Children’s Peace Prize Project Theme Fund 2026 on peace and education.

Generation Deserves proves what is possible when young people have the opportunity to lead. By connecting knowledge, action and community, they are building climate solutions that last far beyond a single project.
